One of the Most Ancient Chinese Health Care Exercises Ba Duan Jin, translated as Eight Section Brocade, is a set of health and fitness qigong exercises composed of eight movements. Originated in Song Dynasty, it has a history of nearly one thousand years. The ancient Chinese named this set of exercises as Jin, which means beautiful and colorfully patterned brocade, to imply that the uninterrupted and graceful movements are as exquisite and precious as brocade.
Combining several methods of exercises, Ba Duan Jin is a complete set of exercises that gives benefits in health maintenance, healing and preventing sickness. Practicing Ba Duan Jin requires deep and natural breathing without restraint and using mind to guide the movements. The movements shall be gentle, relaxed and gracefully extending. The whole set of exercises shall be performed with natural and well-coordinated movements of the left and right side and the upper and lower body.
Ba Duan Jin is relatively easy to learn and suitable for men and women of all ages. It has been proved that practice of Ba Duan Jin improves blood circulation, increases the flexibility of the joints, enhances the functions of the internal organs and helps release mental stress.
